Alan Doyle

Alan Doyle, born on May 17, 1969, in Petty Harbour, Newfoundland, is a distinguished Canadian musician and actor, celebrated for his role as the lead singer of the folk-rock band Great Big Sea. Formed in 1993, Great Big Sea achieved national and international success with their energetic performances and distinctive blend of folk, rock, and Celtic music. After the band disbanded in 2013, Doyle embarked on a successful solo career, releasing multiple albums and continuing to captivate audiences with his dynamic performances.

Throughout his career, Doyle has performed extensively across Canada, including multiple concerts in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. Notably, on March 12, 2024, he held a concert at Centre in the Square in Kitchener, Ontario, as part of his "Welcome Home Tour." This performance featured a mix of his solo work and Great Big Sea classics, showcasing his versatility and enduring appeal.

In addition to his musical endeavors, Doyle has been involved in various philanthropic activities. On April 30, 2023, he returned to Guelph, Ontario, for a fundraising concert at Cutten Fields, supporting youth mental health and wellness. The event raised over $45,000 for The Grove Wellington Guelph, a local organization dedicated to providing accessible mental health resources for youth.

As of January 2025, Alan Doyle continues to perform with his solo band, which includes:

  • Cory Tetford: Guitar

  • Kendall Carson: Fiddle

  • Chris Donnelly: Keyboards

  • Gordie Johnson: Bass

  • Darren Browne: Drums

This ensemble contributes to the rich, energetic sound that Doyle is known for, blending folk, rock, and Celtic influences in his live shows.

One of my greatest accomplishments was, as an independent promoter, creating an environment that was more reliable than most promoters in major markets for Alan to play. He is a reliable sellout in Kitchener-Waterloo.
